My Point of View

Thank God It’s Monday!!!

Posted by: Melissa on: October 25, 2011

Mondays get such a bad wrap, as it relates to the other days of the week.Monday signifies being back on “the grind” for people who consider Monday the first workday, school day, stay at home mom day of the week.

On Monday morning, one will find all mind of tweets, status updates, emails, songs,  and commentaries that welcome Monday with a sense of mourning of the weekend.

On the other hand, there are a handful of people who view Monday as any other  day of the week, an end to the weekend yes, but others like me don’t “kill the messenger” as it relates to Monday.if Monday were a human, it would probably be depressed; as many people welcome it in a depressing way.(poor Monday)

As for me, I welcome it….I don’t make Monday an issue.Yes, I would love to spend more time with Saturday and Sunday.Yes, it would be nice that Monday would join the other of the weekend, but the truth is, we need Monday; just like we need that one responsible friend, that reminds you,  that you shouldn’t goof off all your life….We need Monday.

There are a lot of interesting things that we can embrace about Mondays…..if you have a hard time coming it like a long-lost friend.

Besides  that you’ve lived to see another  Monday, there are many reasons to welcome Monday!!

Here are a few interesting facts about Monday….the second day of the week.

First of all if your work week begins on Monday, and by Monday you still have a job to go to…..celebrate Monday!!!

Interestingly, the word ‘Monday’ was derived from:

  • Old English ‘mon(an)daeg’
  • Latin ‘dies lunae’
  • Ancient Greek ‘hemera selenes’

These are all translated to ‘day of the moon’ and literally mean, ‘moon’s day’

*It’s also called ”Blue Monday.” The name is thought to have started because the first day of the work week used to be set aside for doing the laundry. Bluing was used to keep white clothes from becoming dingy and gray. From that product, wash day became known as “Blue Monday.”

*Several holidays always fall on a Monday. Some of these include Labor Day, Memorial Day, President’s Day, Columbus Day and Veteran’s Day

*There are either 52 or 53 Mondays in a calendar year, depending on what day of the week a year starts. It will also depend if the year is a leap year. In 2010 and 2011 there will be 52 Mondays and there will be 53 in 2012

*Songs named after this day include:

  • Monday Monday – The Mamas and The Papas
  • Monday Morning – Melanie Fiona
  • Manic Monday – The Bangels
  • Rainy Days and Mondays – The Carpenters
  • I Don’t Like Mondays – The Boomtown Rat

As you can see, there’s so much to like about Monday….starting with the fact that it is a day that the lord has made, and you should rejoice and be glad!!!

Monday is a giftg from God…and the truth is, without it…you’re dead.Their gonna come, like NNY Winters…so get over it, embrace it…and try not to set the tone for your week in a negative way.hat would God say, as a result of us acting like ungrateful teenagers, as it relates to Monday.Monday is treated like the Christmas pajamas you get to open on Christmas Eve, Monday is like the garnish on a beautiful plated dish, Monday is treated like wet paper….again…poor Monday!

Consider blessing God for another day, Friday’s relative….Wednesday’s cousin.Monday is right up there with those guys…..Something terrible happened from Elementary school to paying bills that wharped some people’s view of Monday.Monday use to mean seeing the teacher, our friends and recess….and now it means hiding from teachers, avoiding friends and being dramatic like there will never be recess again..as if we won’t get a day off again, or even  like Friday won’t come. Then again….it might not …you never know…so why not enjoy the days you are blessed with!

While I totally understand  mourning the weekend, I am also grateful to see Monday when it comes around.Truth is, at the pace life is going, Monday is yet a moment in what becomes many…and we look up and we’re emailing, posting, tweeting and writing on Facebook about how we are TGIF…..well I say cut Monday a break….and TGIM!!!!
